Food Handler Ordinance

Effective since July 4, 2008, the City of Greenville requires all food handlers within the City to obtain a Food Handler Card. In order to acquire this certification, all food handlers must attend/take a class which conveys the proper procedures for handling food.

Some of the topics covered include, but are not limited to:
  • Proper hand washing
  • Proper sanitation
  • Lowering the risks of cross-contamination
  • Lowering the risk of food-borne illnesses

State Approved Certifications

The City recognizes all State approved certifications for food handler training, which may be independently obtained. Information for approved training courses, including online training, can be found at the Texas Department of State Health Services website.

Once the State approved food handler certification is completed, bring in the certificate and valid ID to complete the registration process. The registration fee with the City of Greenville is $20.

Upon registration, a City of Greenville Food Handler Card will be issued. This card is valid at any food establishment within the city limits of Greenville. The card is good for three years and must be renewed 30 days prior to expiration.
