[ARCHIVED] PRESS RELEASE: FROZEN PIPES COULD CAUSE AN ISSUE WHEN TEMPERATURES RISE

GREENVILLE: With the rolling power outages, homes are without electricity for a period of time, which could cause frozen pipes.

During times when the electricity is on and your pipes are not frozen, open up your cabinet doors to bring the heat to the pipes and trickle your faucets. If you have space heaters, face them to the open cabinets doors to get the heat to the pipes.

If your pipes are frozen, the next risk is the pipes bursting. Pipes expand when they are frozen and may burst. This is a concern as temperatures warm up. If all your pipes are frozen, you can turn your home's water off and open the faucets. More tips can be found here.

There is no guarantee that this will prevent frozen pipes in these temperatures, but these are good preventative measures.

Also, for industrial customers be aware of this same scenario that pipes may freeze and as water lines within the City thaw there may be possible breaks. We ask that you be patient during these times and know that Public Works is working to get everything restored as quickly as possible.

Public works is monitoring all major distribution water mains for leaks and/or breaks as the temperatures change. Should you need to contact Public Works please call the emergency number at (903) 457-2948.
