Overview
Patrol Operations is the largest and most visible of all the divisions in the Greenville Police Department. Patrol Operations is under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Police. For more information, please call (903) 457-2920.

Responsibilities
  • First responders when citizens place a call for police
  • Enforcement of all local, State, and Federal laws
  • Preliminary investigation of criminal offenses
  • Apprehension of offenders
  • Enforcement of traffic and parking laws
  • Advance crime prevention efforts through interaction with citizens
  • Provide a deterrent presence in the patrol districts

Field Training Officers (FTO)

FTOs are managed by the Field Training Sergeant. There are seven patrol officers designated as FTOs in addition to their regular duties.

Program Facts

  • Rotate probationary officer between FTOs for 18 weeks
  • Provide the opportunity for probationary officer to observe and learn from a veteran
  • Give probationary officer hands-on experience

Result
Probationary officers who successfully complete the Field Training are assigned to Patrol Operations and begin serving the community.
